Underneath the tiles, a layer of roofing felt (or a modern breathable membrane) acts as a secondary barrier against wind-driven rain and moisture that gets past the tile joints. Felt that’s torn, sagging or deteriorated can let water reach the timber battens and rafters even while the tiles above look fine. We install and replace roof felt as part of tiling and re-roofing work.

How We Approach Tiling & Felting
For re-tiling or felt replacement, the existing tiles are carefully removed, the felt/membrane replaced where needed, battens checked and replaced if damaged, and tiles re-laid with correct overlap and fixing. Valleys and areas around skylights or chimneys get particular attention, since these junctions are where leaks most commonly start.
Roof Tiling & Felting vs. a Full Re-Roof
Tiling and felting work can often be carried out on a specific section of roof rather than the whole thing, if the rest of the roof is in good condition. For roofs with more widespread issues, this may form part of a full roofing project instead.
